UPPER FOREST PLAYGROUND
In the 2015-2016 year, inspired by the natural environment of the North Shore, we began the process
to upgrade the undeveloped Upper Forest area adjacent to the school's Primary entry doors.

PROPOSALThis 2016/2017 year, we brainstormed with a local landscape company to propose ideas, children and parents voted on their favourite ideas, and we looked at the feasibility of the options based on the cost. Based on this process, we are hoping to install log rounds and small boulders in this area. Currently we are waiting on SD44 approval for the project.
UPDATE JUNE 2017Our proposal for the tree platforms with a linking bridge was denied by the SD44 for a few reasons, the main one being that footings for the tree platforms would significantly impact the trees' root system.
Our Plan B proposal for log rounds and rocks may still be supported. SD44 would like to see details regarding fall zones, pinch points, and ground surface materials (eg. bark mulch, pea gravel etc.). If we add bark mulch or similar to the area, we would need to increase the height of the concrete wall, and add a new fence, which would increase the cost. Currently the Playground Committee does not want to see unnatural ground cover in our natural play area, nor add additional costs. We will look at other options and keep you posted. |
