TRAFFIC PLAN

Please do not park on yellow lines.
Use the drop-off zone by stopping before the cones, and letting your children out of the car before driving away very slowly and safely.
We realize that you may be running late for work, but your children's safety and your neighbour's children's safety is more important than that work deadline.

  • There is no parking in any of the yellow zones in front of the school.
  • Please do not stop in the yellow zones, the intersection, the crosswalk, the school parking lot or in front of any of the driveways on Carisbrooke to drop off your children.
  • Please use the drop off zone in front of the school, on the north side of Carisbrooke Road between the trees and the yellow zone.  Drivers must remain in their vehicle when dropping off or picking up their child and we ask for cars to continually pull forward as cars leave the pickup zone to help keep the flow of traffic in that zone.
  • Please observe the 30km per hour speed limit during school hours.  Please don’t linger in the drop off zone. It is for a quick stop and go so we can keep the flow of traffic in that zone moving during.
  • Please use the crosswalk to cross Carisbrooke Road at the corner of St. Kilda and remind the children to do the same.

HOW TO CROSS

  • Cross only at intersections or marked crosswalks.
  • Stop, look left-right-left and shoulder check before crossing and make sure the road is clear.
  • Make eye contact with drivers, ensure drivers have stopped their vehicle before crossing, and keep looking for approaching vehicles while crossing.
  • Be aware of what is happening around you, and avoid using your phone or headphones.
  • Be seen by wearing reflective materials or bright clothes and using lights after dark and in poor weather.
  • With a crossing guard, make sure the guard has blown his/her whistle with his/her stop sign held high before crossing.

PARENTS:  Please be aware there are children crossing within the 20 minutes before school starts.  DO NOT PARK ON ANY YELLOW LINES NOR PARK ON THE CROSSWALK ITSELF!

CROSSING GUARD PROGRAM

Please help our young elementary students cross safely at
the crosswalk at
East Carisbrooke Road and St. Kilda Avenue.
Starting in 2023, each grade is assigned to a month and parents from this grade are asked to sign up for at least one date/time (or more!) during their grade's month to be Crossing Guards.

A safety vest, whistler and stop sign will be provided and stored in the metal storage box near the crosswalk.

We also encourage everyone to take a shift even if it is not your student's month!

The division with the most fulfilled shifts throughout the year will be the recipients of a special prize for the whole class!

ASSIGNED MONTHS:
Grade 4: October
Grade 5: November
Grade 6: December
Grade 7: January
Grade 3: February
March is open to everyone
Grade 2: April
Grade 1: May
Kindie: June

Our crossing guard volunteers are up and running the morning shift (8:30 to 9:00 a.m.) and after noon (14:50 - 15:10) Monday to Friday.
