GARDENING CREW

Picture

Carisbrooke is lucky to have a group of dedicated parents who are responsible for planning and maintaining the garden beds at the front of the school.  Contact teresa@carisbrookepac.ca if you would like to volunteer with the Gardening Crew.

THIS YEAR'S PROJECT

 Carisbrooke Children Take
Over the Gardens!!

Picture
This year, Teresa Hay-Sabourin our Garden Coordinator, is working with teachers and their classes to let the kids get outside to explore and learn!  They will meet once a month all year to learn more about where food comes from and how it’s grown.

Last school year, students participated in the Edible Garden Program had been working really hard in the garden this spring.  They have taken ownership of the school beds. Transplanting existing flowers to the far flower bed, making room for their veggie patches. This past week they got dirty planting peas, kale, parsley, and lettuce.

In the fall they planted garlic which is doing very well!  Students will harvest it at the end of June, then leave it to cure over summer break.
They will enjoy a harvest feast in June with all they’ve grown.

Along with planting and growing last week they explored vermin-composting. If your Childs class participated please ask them about the red wigglers. They were all very brave in handling the worms, along with observing and identify their anatomy and habitat. They learnt about soil compositions & composting.

2016-2017

In 2017 CPAC installed new frames with concrete footings for the 3 planter beds we have separating the asphalt playground from the gravel field.  These new frames include bench seating for our kids and two very cool tic-tac-toe playing stumps.  Woohoo!
